Jimby: screen capture

notes

I started Jimby because I did not want to glue together other people's pieces (VNC, a VPN, a third-party server) and call it a product. I wrote every part myself: capture and encoding on the computer being controlled, the server in the middle, the apps at the other end.

The Mac host captures the screen and streams HEVC at close to 60 frames per second. A Rust host covers Windows. Viewers run on iPhone, Mac and Windows.

Sessions are end-to-end encrypted: the server passes the data along but cannot read it. Devices pair with a link that works only once, and private keys stay in the Secure Enclave when the device has one.

It is not a demo: it is in public beta at getjimby.com, with a free plan, a Pro subscription and the site in five languages. The iPhone app is about to reach the App Store.
